II would like to call your attention to post-vasectomy sperm count misreads. We’ve just had our 4-5th case since the inception of SCRUBS in 2008 and the wife of this patient became pregnant.

I believe what is happening here is that our gaze takes us to the ‘Reference Range’ result because we want to see a ‘NONE SEEN’ after our great vasectomy.
To remedy this situation, I suggest that the first thing you do is put a big ‘X’ through the ‘Reference Range’ value, then read the report as you would with any other lab. Lastly, I would not delegate these tasks to mid-levels or a medical assistant.
